Ken Ferris
Ken Ferris serves as a Corporate Advisor at Luna Innovations
Incorporated, Roanoke, VA, where he was most recently President of Luna’s Products
Division.
Ken, an engineering graduate of Virginia Tech, has been on the founding team of
three technology start-up companies each of which was sold to a large, publically
traded company. The technologies involved included fiber optic communications, DSL,
and wireless sensors. He began his career with the Department of Defense in Northern
Va.
Ken is past President and currently on the Board of the NewVa Corridor Technology
Council (NCTC) which serves the Roanoke and New River Valleys. He has also served
on the Board of the Science Museum of Western Virginia and was a founding board
member and served for a number of years as Chairman of the Board for the Blueridge
Women’s Center, formerly the Crisis Pregnancy Center of the Roanoke Valley. He has
been involved in starting and growing two churches and is currently the Moderator of
the Session for Christ Our Redeemer Community Church in Roanoke.
Ken lives in Botetourt County, Virginia with his wife of 38 years, Trisha. They have
two children and six grandchildren.
Dr. Robert Hamrin, Chairman
Dr. Robert Hamrin is the founder and President of Great Dads, an international
nonprofit organization that presents seminars which train fathers to be great
dads to their kids and motivates them to turn their heart to their children.
Over 33,000 dads across America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and India have received
this training in live seminars presented by Dr. Hamrin and his team of 45
certified Associates.
Prior to founding Great Dads in 1996, Bob served (1983-1996) as an independent
economic-business consultant, author and speaker. His clients included the
World Bank, the National Association of Manufacturers, and a host of other
corporations and organizations in the business, labor, environmental, media and
government sectors. From 1974 to 1983, he served as a staff economist for the
Joint Economic Committee of Congress, the EPA, a Presidential Commission, and a
U.S. Senator in his Presidential candidacy.
Dr. Hamrin has written seven books and numerous published articles and has
served as a professor at two universities. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from
the University of Wisconsin.
Bob and Carol, his bride of 39 years, live in Clifton, Virginia and are the parents
of three grown children: Eric, Krista, and Kira.
Major General Don Riley, Secretary
Major General Don Riley came to the Army Corps of Engineers
Headquarters in Washington, DC following command of the Corps'
Mississippi Valley Division in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where he
received a Presidential appointment as President of the Mississippi
River Commission.
Prior to that, Don was the Engineer for the U.S. Army in Europe, headquartered
in Heidelberg, Germany, where he was also European Coordinator for the non-profit
ministry, Officers Christian Fellowship.
A native of Hayward, California, Don is a graduate of the United States Military
Academy at West Point, N.Y. He later earned a Master of Engineering degree from
the University of California, Berkeley and is a Registered Professional Engineer
in California. He also holds a Master of Military Arts and Sciences degree from
the University of Kansas. During his many Army assignments, he has led
neighborhood Bible studies and taught multiple levels of Sunday School.
Don is exceedingly blessed by his wife, former Roslyn Shelton (Retired Army
Nurse Corps Lieutenant Colonel) of Shreveport, LA, and four wonderful children:
Devin and wife Marie with granddaughter Addison, Army Captain Darren, Daniel,
and Caitlyn.
John Walter, Treasurer
John Walter leads the Ministry Advancement unit of the American Bible Society.
He has also served as the leader of its Global Scripture Fund. As co-founder of the
ABS research unit – Global Scripture Impact – he pioneered the development of performance
philanthropy disciplines within ABS and other international ministries.
Prior to ABS, John helped both new and established technology firms grow in sectors
as diverse as the United States Congress, Christian Internet sites, and Polish
research laboratories. John and his wife Pam lived and worked in Poland after the
collapse of the Wall in the early 1990s.
John serves as board chair for Gather and Care, a ministry in service to widows and
orphans in former Communist countries, and Register of the Vestry of The Falls Church. John is an accomplished organist, pianist and worship leader. He holds a BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA from the Cox School at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.
John and Pam have been married for 18 years, and are blessed with four children.
They make their home in Falls Church, Virginia.
Dr. Daniel B. Wright
Dr. Daniel B. Wright was appointed Managing Director for China and the
Strategic Economic Dialogue at the U.S. Department of Treasury in March 2007.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Wright was Vice President and Washington D.C. Office
Director of the National Bureau of Asian Research since 2004. From 2000 to 2004,
he served as the Executive Director of the Hopkins-Nanjing Program of Johns Hopkins
University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), the premier educational
joint-venture program between the United States and China. From 1997 to 1999, Dr.
Wright held a fellowship with the Institute of Current World Affairs, during which
he lived in southwest China’s Guizhou Province. He has also worked as Manager of
Asian Affairs for the Washington, D.C. consulting firm Andreae, Vick & Associates
and as a translator at the Foreign Language Bureau in Beijing.
Dr. Wright is a member of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and is a
delegate to the U.S.-Japan Leadership Program. He also serves as an elder at Vienna
Presbyterian Church in Vienna, Virginia. He earned his B.A. in history from Vanderbilt
University, his M.Div. from Fuller Theological Seminary, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from
Johns Hopkins SAIS. He has been a visiting scholar at Qinghua University’s School of
Public Policy and Management. He studied Chinese at Beijing University, Beijing
Foreign Language Institute, and the Beijing Languages Institute. Dr. Wright is the
author of two books and numerous articles that examine current issues in China.
He is married to Guowei Wright and they have four children: Margaret (13), Jon (11),
Peter (5), and James (4).
